The last round of the Lotus Cup Italia 2021 could only reach the level of the previous ones in terms of adrenaline and emotions. In fact, at Mugello, on the same circuit that had seen the championship start last April, a spectacular season of the trophy dedicated to the Lotus Elise Cup PB-R ended.
Daniel Grimaldi came out as the best driver of the season: already in Race 1, the young italian driver was able to attack and conquer the win despite the effort done by Giacomo Giubergia (Pellin Racing); for the last step of the podium, emotional fight between Franco Nespoli (Aggressive Team Italia) and Fabio Radice.
Vito Utzieri finished fifth, after a great start and solid race, just ahead of Johannes Zelger and Alberto Grisi. Eight place for Stefano Zerbi (Cipriani Motorsport), able to keep behind Pasquale Serratore. Photo finish for the tenth place between Massimo Abbati and the rookie Stefano Fiaschi with Stefano Bagnariol, Corrado Formigli and Francesca Bagnariol to close the standing.
As a result of the reversal of the top ten in qualifying, Formigli started from pole position in Race 2, author of a perfect start that allowed him to keep the lead until the end of the first lap, when Nespoli managed to conquer the leadership at the Bucine, immediately imitated by Zelger, Radice, Giubergia and Grimaldi. The latter, fresh winner of the championship, did not take long to get behind the tread after a wonderful double duel that saw him prevail first against Giubergia and then on Radice with a formidable winning streak at San Donato. In the middle of the table the battle between Serratore, Grisi and Zerbi for 8th position was incandescent. Eight minutes from the end, Grimaldi’s lunge took the lead, keeping him up to the checkered flag; behind the podium positions, now frozen with Nespoli and Radice in order, it was a very heated battle which then saw Giubergia, Zelger, Grisi, Utzieri, Serratore, Formigli, Zerbi, Abbati at the finish line (unlucky weekend for him) , Stefano Bagnariol, Fiaschi (with 25″ penalty for jump start) and Francesca Bagnariol.
Thus ends a thrilling season for Lotus Cup Italia, with Daniel Grimaldi, Giacomo Giubergia and Alberto Grisi on the podium of the general classification; Grisi, for his part, wins success in the other three classes (Hankook Trophy, Mater and Lotus Gold Cup) by beating Vito Utzieri and Johannes Zelger in the first two in the one reserved for less experienced drivers.
